I may very well do another one like this with the scene better laid out, rather than adding details as I think of them, though I like variation in my work, so that may be some time off before I return to the campfire. I like the campfire design, though, it looks nice to my way of thinking. I also did experimentation in regards to how I want to do the backs of these. Still haven't nailed anything down on that front.
Here in the land that shan't see the sun again until the very forces of nature themselves commit a major upheaval, it started snowing a lot, meaning I had some more time in the morning than I typically would. What a better activity to celebrate the regular functioning of society being ignored for a day with than burning some wood of a scene recalling better times? This one was really quite nice to make, save for the woodsmoke fumes getting in my eyes. But, you gotta suffer for your art, I suppose. Oh, and the heat bleeding of the burning pen. That does not keep the handle very cool when it's ready for use, let me tell you. The design for this started as just the campfire and the tree, but all the empty space looked wrong so I added in the darkness to either side, made a little river which let me burn individual stalks of grass, added a moon that could have used a practice burn, and generally made a rather nice looking scene on a piece of wood larger than a disc. I'm happy with it, and I hope looking at it makes you, in some way, feel nice for it. Still haven't nailed anything down on that front. Have any ideas for how I can structure the backs of these things I woodburn? Feel free to let me know! I can't really come to a decision on it at the moment, and I'd be happy to receive some input. As it is, I'm just doing cursive names for discs, but on larger projects I feel like something grander is necessary.
