Here in the land that shan't see the sun again until the very forces of nature themselves commit a major upheaval, it started snowing a lot, meaning I had some more time in the morning than I typically would. What a better activity to celebrate the regular functioning of society being ignored for a day with than burning some wood of a scene recalling better times?
Arts been something I've always struggled with. The idea of being able to pick up a pencil and do something awesome is a skill I want, but before you get there, you have to draw a lot of really bad stuff. I'm of a flawed mindset that always expects some kind of perfection from myself right out of the gate, so it's been difficult to make myself draw despite knowing that everyone started at a similar level.
Anyways, I finally did start drawing, looked at other people's work for trying to figure out how in the name of all that is holy one actually does it, and have since been learning and getting marginally better. Kind of. I should try and devote more time to it to really make proper progress, but for now it's usually a good five or ten minutes every night, which has resulted in what is actually going to be the bulk of this post once I stop blathering. I'm not putting this here to shock and amaze people, more to be interesting and track progression. There's also some sketchwork from when I practice a design for woodburning, so I hope you enjoy this amateur-level entry that I have the hubris of designating as art. It's put in a Read More thingy so as not to give passer-by's an attack of fits. I've been meaning to try my hand at some art in regardance to Fallout 4, but only finally got around to it recently. I plan on trying to do a disc for every faction, but attempts at the Brotherhood of Steel did not go so well... The Minutemen one went better, though I think I may have made a slight mistake in shading it. Anyways, hope you enjoy it, I quite enjoyed making it and will most certainly be trying to do some more.
Images are in the Read More break so as not to make the page far too tall. For this recent Christmas, I wanted to make something nice for the family, so I took incredible heat in a concentrated area and pressed against thin pieces of wood to make something arty! I managed not to start any fires, and have them in people's stockings Christmas morning, so I think I won Christmas that year. Picture is in the read more section.
The basic tenants of a good time, and the two artistic talents I possess and am willing to share.
Long ago, in the before times, I made a nice looking thing by taking a metal pen, cranking up the heat, and jabbing it into a block of wood until I was satisfied it looked nice. There's more to it than that, of course, but it's more fun to describe things vaguely. The actual process involves practicing what you're drawing with a regular pencil, outlining it on a scrap piece of wood and and practicing with the burning pen, then doing it for reals and regretting how much better the practice looks than the final product. I engage in this activity from time to time, and will certainly put up some pictures when I do because Woodburning seems to interest people. Other than that is drawing! Old fashioned pencil lead on paper to trick the eye into thinking flat is 3D and a thing exists that didn't before. Or something like that, I'm not very good at it. Yet. I'm practicing and going to get better, because mediums that combine literary and visual artistic skills are some of the most interesting to my mind, and I really need help on the latter. Hope y'all enjoy seeing me be terrible! Up top, the tab that says Art, go there and you shall find some good stuff, and some bad stuff. Unless you like bad art, then it'll just be good stuff to your mind. |
